The Great Dals of India

A visit to neighborhood "desi" store enlightened me about the dal crisis which we would endure for the next few months. The prices have skyrocketed. It seems the crop failed in india and so the govt. has banned export of dals.

This used to be our staple diet as grad students. Any desi student would vouch for the mastery he attained in cooking dal. We were proud to have invented a variety of homegrown recipes like thin "watery" dal, thick "gravy" dal, spicy dal, well cooked "burnt" dal and the rest is left to creative thinking ability of the readers. One of my rommie was so obsessed with dal that he used to cook it without fail during each and every cooking turn he had. "Happy" r u listening ? :)

Especially for vegans like me, this is a good source of protiens. So for the time being get used to buyin these "DALS" at a premium price.

Well, knowing the typical 'Desi' store owners, I wouldn't be surprised if they also had something to do with jacking up of the prices
